Twinity Wall Museum shows Cold War Berlin and Modern Berlin

Entrance to the Twinity Open Air Wall Museum, a must see in Virtual Reality

The Twinity Berlin home has an new exhibit which demonstrates some real potential of their unique Real World based model. You can go to Berlin and take the Wall Tour. I have been to Berlin and it is hard today to know or even imagine how it must have been when Berlin was still split in two by a wall. But Twinity has provide Time Portals for you to walk back in time.

By entering through the portal above you enter in to Berlin 1989, just before the Berlin Wall came down.

Above is a scene from Berlin 1989 showing the border to the former East Germany, and below is the scene at the same location based on modern Berlin

This ability to layer past models of a space on top of current models is a real powers of Twinity's use of Google Maps as a model of their world. This also opens up some amazing augmented reality possibilities. A tablet running Twinity software and using GPS could allow users to walk around old versions of the city as they move around in the real world.

The applications are massive, from education to urban planning, government information, advertising and gaming. A very impressive implementation and one of the coolest virtual concepts I have seen since starting this blog.

I had fun choosing this particular painting online that now hangs in my downtown office, from Wahooart.co, who sells canvas prints of art masterpieces. While the original is treasured in some art museum in England, my print http://EN.WahooArt.com/A55A04/w.nsf/Opra/BRUE-8LHS4U, of this painting by Edward Burne-Jones is very much appreciated by my staff and clients. The print quality is really excellent.
