Identity, Community, and Location

BDSM community is a very large part of Second Life culture. Bound Rapture is a location for the community to meet and network. What I find interesting in this shot is how the landscape is designed. This looks like Pacific Northwest to me, and I imagine a large part of the online BDSM community has some connection to that space.

In fact SL with its water and rolling hills looks so much like the Pacific North west all the time. What would a Virtual Reality which gave you a desert or "real mountains" and not just hills be like? How would it promote different communities? What kind of different communities would demand that?

I have really strong opinions about silly things that I can validate using the strongest social theory, like why you should not watch Sex in the City or how the Simpsons promotes democracy.
