For years the experience I had of flying in Second Life was pretty lame. The animations did not flow smoothly and there was a lot of lag between keyboard action and plan response. Generally I could never keep interested in flying as sport. Sometimes its fun to fly over a SIM but you can do that without a plane in SL.
But with the new Windows 7 machines and using a browsers like Emerald the experience is greatly improved. It still is not XBOX quality but it is far far smoother and getting to a level of "game play". This is actually fairly critical, because once SL browsers feel like PC Games Second Life could become the universal games platform of the Internet. The costs of developing group games could drop to a fraction over night.
