Steampunk is very popular in Second Life. One can wonder why a Victorian aesthetic would suddenly become popular in imagining the future. Maybe this is what people wanted all along, only Hollywood didn't know it, or maybe the sudden plenty of virtual reality has removed modernist concepts of form and function and invited people to build for style as well as functionality since its all virtual anyways
