Federation of American Scientists with Tristan Saeed have build a model of the City of Gilgamesh. I wish it was a bit bigger but it is a wonderful educational opportunity to bring the ancient culture of Iraq alive for modern audience.
If you have not read the Epic of Gilgamesh it is one of those must read texts. There are a lot of translations and a lot of tablets have been found that tell the story of Gilgamesh, but you can start here.
Gilgamesh is the oldest story we have, so you can think that civilization starts with it. Earliest versions of Gilgamesh were written in the Sumerian language is the earliest known written language.
Gilgamesh seems to be the source of the Flood in the Bible.
