Perhaps the easiest idea for what a virtual reality like Second Life could offer is an illusion of wealth. You can play being a billionaire. But really how many children play "rich man" as a child? I recall as a child wanting to be rich early and finding other kids more interested in being soldiers, fire man, police officers, or victims of accidents bionically enhanced. I would often play the scientist, because good stories often need a scientist, but the scientist is never the hero of the child's story. Which goes to say the roles most people find available to themselves in Second Life lack a basic drama.
