Sailing ships float in the sky over the Free Caledon Republic. Surreal dream in Second Life. Makes me think of Vermilion Sands by James Graham Ballard. Ballard was one of the first Sci Fi writers who, in the Sands, shows a future that is not scary, but rather a nice place you can see people wanting to live, full of art and fun.
This trend of hedonistic anarchist Utopian writing in Sci Fi reaches it maximum in the Culture novels by Iain M. Banks
