Lively Let Down

The VR feeling of Lively from Google is not very good.

For Window's users this Photosynth shows you how dull the rooms really are.

It is what it says, again sorry to Mac and Linux users. Perhaps I can make something not interoperable for you?

again sorry to the Linux and Mac people out there

Microsoft Photosynth tries to arrange a series of photos in to a 3-D arrangement. What I found in making Midsomer Isle is it still is a bit primitive. But it seems fun and I will work to make a series of public 3-D images of places in SL.

Shiny Life This Weekend: Collabricate | Shiny Life

What I’d like to do is set up a regular event where people are encouraged to create together in a positive, free form environment. We’ll pick a theme, start building, and see what comes into being. Who knows, we might even learn something in the process. :) All skills levels will be welcome. All that you need to bring are your building, scripting, texturing, and other skills along with a willingness to cooperate and interact.Right now

I am thinking that spreading it across two days will give more people a chance to get in-world and participate. I’ll have some more details as the weekend approaches.Saturday and Sunday August 30th and 31st at my sim: Sunset Myst.

We’ll be building from 11am - 1pm (SLT) on Saturday and 5 - 7pm on Sunday. Please leave suggestions and ideas in the comments, or send ‘em my way in-world. Hope to see ya there!

Orange Island Photo Contest

Orange, the mobile provider has probably done as good a job as IBM of coming in to Second Life and promoting its culture.

OnRez New Download Available!!!

OnRez could be the salvation for user forced off SL because they haveolder Windows machines. Miriam Milo told me about it and it has turned an XP machine which could not handle the new Linden Labs client in to a main inworld machine.

This is just another client to get inside the SL world. It is actually the LL client from before Windlight features were placed in to LL. So you get reduced features but the ability to get in world and stay in world.

Its happening now

Second Life is already a major scene of global discourse, perhaps the first true global virtual reality.

Lively again

I don't mean to beat a dead horse in to the ground, but reviewing Lively from Google against Second Life I am struck again and again by the amazing diversity and richness of place creation Linden Lab's Grid technology has allowed.

Sure SL is full of ghost towns, but what amazing ghosts towns await people who venture in to Second Life. I have spent a year just wondering around and doubt I will get bored looking at places soon.

If you think of the virtual space as a kind of language that structures our life in that virtual space than all these ghost towns are symantic structures being developed by a small group before they enter a fuller discourse.

Okay it sounds like bullshit.

SL vs Lively, there is no contest

SL is simply a better platform for presenting AV identity to a community. Can you really compare the group above to the kind of pathetic environment Lively is giving.

Oh and by the way congrats to Obama and congrats to America for a historic moment in its history.
